The word `maxima` contained in the phrase `maxima propositio`, is the source of the word `maxim` meaning principle or rule of conduct`. The word `Aphorism` is another one word meaning of the word `maxim`. This book is a Digest on `Latin` Aphorisms` and Latin Phrases`, in the nature of a dictionary.
