Enforcement of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights is specially designed to be a useful reference for academicians, NGOs, law students and lawyers as well as other institutions dealing with international law and human rights. The enforcement of human rights, in general, and economic, social and cultural rights, in particular, depends to a great extent on the legal provisions contained in international and regional treaties, as well as in national constitutions and laws, which protect these rights. Beginning with a world overview of the convention on human rights, the text covers the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), implementation mechanisms under the various charters, descriptions of the core rights, and the Indian implementation mechanism. It finally concludes with relevant jurisprudence in this area. Key Features • Explores the various international and regional human rights instruments available for the enforcement of economic, social and cultural rights • Traces the relationship of fundamental rights with the directive principles of state policy in India • Touching upon the jurisprudence developed by the Indian judiciary in this field, it concludes that after the Vienna Declaration civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights are interdependent, indivisible and interrelated
